Blog For FREE

A great way to attract visitors to your site is to set up a blog and the best thing is that this needn’t cost you a penny, just a little bit of your time!

Head on over to Wordpress and download the latest release (currently 2.5)

Unzip the file and upload it into a folder on your server. You will also need to set up a database on your hosting account, normally very straight forward.

The installation instructions provided with Wordpress are fairly easy to follow and before you know it, you’ll have your very own blog.

What Do I Write?

You are ideally writing to your potential customers so think about the things that they might like to know about. If you sell clothes, write about the latest trends/manufacturers to hit the market, have hints and tips for people buying online, up and coming events in the fashion world, basically anything to get your target audience interested and also to get them coming back to your site.

The key thing is to link back to your own site wherever possible (but don’t overdo it!). This can help with your on site SEO as well as directing your customers to your specific products.

For example, if you need help installing a blog on your website, contact Elan Web Design and we’ll quote you for the work (probably less than £30!). If you don’t want to install Wordpress as part of your own site, you can always go here and get the whole package installed and hosted for free!

There are also lots of themes available to download and use for your blog to give yours a different appearance.

Happy Blogging!

Charity Work

This week, I have just finished working on a site for a not-for-profit organisation, Abilities First. It is the first time that I have done any work for a charity/organisation like this and I found myself really enjoying it.

I haven’t been paid anything, I’ve been working late at night to get it finished and I’ve had to put other things off until I got it completed but I still enjoyed it.

In fact, I would encourage all small business owners to consider this type of work. Why? [Read more →]
